Built for Banks & Credit Unions

    Technology That Disappears.Trust That Doesn't.

VanderNet helps community and regional banks and credit unions protect member and customer data, keep systems available, and keep the documentation ready when examiners ask. Every update is reviewed before it reaches you. Every critical issue has someone on it until it's resolved. You serve your members and customers. We handle the technology.

Not every institution answers to the same regulator. Whether you are a national bank, a state-chartered bank, or a federally insured credit union, the rules that apply depend on your charter, your insurance, and your primary regulator. VanderNet works with your compliance and risk professionals to identify your institution's specific obligations and build a technology program that supports them.

Free. No obligation. It's a conversation.

    The Real Cost

    Examiners Ask. Members Assume.

Your members assume the doors open on time, the app works, and their information stays private. Your examiners assume the controls are documented, tested, and current. Both assumptions land on the same few people, and often on the same few systems.

When the connection to your core drops on a Monday morning, the cost isn't one lost hour. When a vendor update breaks a teller workstation right before a holiday weekend, the line doesn't wait. When an examination request list arrives with a due date, nobody wants to discover which controls are actually documented.

You didn't go into financial services to manage servers, chase your IT company for a callback, or rebuild a documentation binder the week before an exam.

You shouldn't have to wonder whether anyone is on it. You need an IT partner who does the worrying, so you never have to.

    Before Anything Else

Your Obligations Depend on Your Charter and Your Regulator.

Before addressing technology, it is worth being clear about which rules apply to your institution. The primary regulator depends on how you are chartered and insured.

    • National banks and federal savings associations are supervised by the OCC, state member banks by the Federal Reserve, and state nonmember banks by the FDIC. State-chartered banks also answer to their state banking regulator.
    • Federally insured credit unions are supervised by the NCUA. State-chartered credit unions also answer to their state supervisory authority.
    • Banks are subject to the Interagency Guidelines Establishing Information Security Standards, issued under Section 501(b) of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. They call for a written information security program approved by the board, with risk assessment, security controls, service-provider oversight, testing, and regular reporting to the board.
    • Federally insured credit unions follow NCUA Part 748, including Appendix A (Guidelines for Safeguarding Member Information) and Appendix B (Guidance on Response Programs). The NCUA's vital records preservation requirements (Part 749) were also updated, effective July 16, 2026.
    • Incident notification is a separate obligation. Banks and credit unions must notify their federal regulator of qualifying incidents within a set number of hours, not days. The specific windows are summarized in the FAQ below.
    • Regulators expect institutions to manage the risks of the vendors they rely on, including technology providers. Using a third party does not reduce the institution's own responsibility.

VanderNet works with your institution's leadership and compliance professionals to determine which requirements apply based on your charter, your regulator, and your provider relationships. This is not legal or compliance advice.

    Where It Counts

    Four Moments. One Standard.

    Moment 01

    The Exam Request List Arrives.

An examination request list lands with a due date. Nobody is sure which policies are current, which controls are documented, or where the evidence lives.

    With VanderNet

Your technical safeguards are already mapped and documented. We organize the technical evidence your examiners ask for, including system inventories, access reviews, backup test results, and risk findings, before the deadline, not during it.

An exam request list should be a retrieval exercise, not a scramble.

    Moment 02

    The Core Connection Goes Down.

It's Monday morning. Tellers can't reach the core system, the line is out the door, and the vendor's help desk has you in a queue.

    With VanderNet

We start with the environment we manage, including network, firewall, workstations, and connectivity, to determine quickly whether the problem is on your side or the provider's. If it's the provider's, we coordinate with them, track the ticket, and keep your team updated until it's resolved. Critical issues stay owned.

Your members shouldn't be the first to notice.

    Moment 03

The Friday Before a Long Weekend.

It's the Friday before a three-day weekend, and an update reaches the teller workstations late in the afternoon. By Monday morning, the first teller to log in can't open the core, the lobby is filling, and the people who could have caught it are off until Tuesday.

    With VanderNet

Month-end and holiday weekends are logged in advance, so changes to branch and teller systems are held and scheduled around them. General updates wait 30 days while vendors find the problems, and security-urgent patches are the one exception. Your team hears from us before a change reaches a branch, not after. See our full update policy in the FAQ below.

A holiday weekend is the wrong time to find out an update broke the teller line.

    Moment 04

    The Payment Change Request.

During a busy close, an email arrives from what looks like a long-standing vendor. It references a real invoice and asks accounts payable to update the bank details on an upcoming payment. A similar request might ask for a wire, or for a credential reset on a system that touches member data.

    With VanderNet

Email security and 24/7/365 monitoring work to reduce the risk before a message reaches your team. No filter catches everything, and a request from a compromised vendor or executive account can look flawless. The control that matters most is your institution's own procedure: confirming payment changes, wire instructions, and credential resets through a known contact method, with the approvals your policies require. If a message looks wrong, VanderNet reviews it within our service scope, checks whether an account has been compromised, and coordinates the technical response with the people your institution designates.

When a payment request looks wrong, your team should know who to call before they act.

These are illustrative scenarios based on situations banks and credit unions commonly face. They are not client case studies.

What Your Compliance and Security Officers Actually Receive.

An examination request list asks for evidence, not assurances. VanderNet keeps the technical record current as your environment changes, so your officers are retrieving it, not reconstructing it.

    Who We Serve

Two Roles. One Standard of Support.

    For Executives and Board Members

Protect member trust and keep leadership informed.

Reliable systems, protected member and customer information, and a clear record of oversight all reflect on your leadership. VanderNet gives you visibility into the technology and security risks your institution carries and a plan for addressing them in order of priority. When you open a branch, add a service, change a vendor relationship, or prepare for an examination, we help you understand what changes, what needs to be documented, and what your security program needs to reflect.

What that looks like in practice:

    • A plain-English summary of what is in place, what is open, and what comes next, suitable for management and board reporting
    • Regular reviews that connect technology risks to the institution's decisions and priorities
    • Advance notice before anything significant changes, with your approval required
    • A technology plan that anticipates new branches, new services, and growth, not one that gets rebuilt every time something changes

For Operations, IT, and Compliance Leaders

Keep every branch open and every exam on schedule.

A teller’s workstation fails before opening. A new lender needs system access by Monday. A departed employee’s credentials are still active. An examiner’s request list is due Friday. In most institutions, each lands on the same few people. VanderNet gives that work an owner and a path: one point of contact, a clear route for escalation, and a status update on anything waiting on a vendor.

    Platform and Vendor Support

What Support for Your Core and Vendor Platforms Actually Includes.

A bank or credit union technology stack depends on platforms that are operated by others, such as core processors, online and mobile banking providers, and card processors. Here is what VanderNet's support means across that stack.

    What VanderNet manages

    • Administration and configuration of identity, access, and devices connected to your platforms
    • Security hardening of the network and operating environment those platforms connect to
    • Troubleshooting connectivity, authentication, and integration issues on the institution's side
    • Coordination with the vendor when the issue is on their side, including ticket tracking and status updates
    • MFA enrollment and device compliance for staff accessing core, online banking administration, and other critical platforms

    What VanderNet does not replace

    • Application-level administration within your core, lending, card, or online banking platforms (that remains with your designated administrator or the vendor)
    • The vendor's own security, availability, and incident-response obligations, and your institution's oversight of the vendor. VanderNet supports that oversight with technical information; ownership stays with your institution
    • Your institution's governance and compliance decisions. The board, management, and designated officers remain responsible

If you are unsure where an issue sits, contact VanderNet first. We will assess it and coordinate with the right party.

    Common Questions

    Straight Answers.

Don't see yours? Ask it in your strategy session.

    Does VanderNet make us compliant?

No. We support your compliance with security controls, monitoring, and documentation. Your board, management, and designated compliance and security officers own your compliance program.

We're a community institution. Is this built for us?

Yes. We serve community and regional banks and credit unions across a range of sizes. What matters more than asset size is whether your institution has regulatory obligations, member and customer data to protect, and a team that needs dependable systems. If that describes your institution, the conversation is worth having. We'll give you a straight answer in your strategy session.

    How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on the number of users and locations in your institution and the support you need. We'll walk through it with you in plain terms during your strategy session.

What is included in the environment review, and what does it cost?

The 15-minute strategy session is always free. It's a conversation about your institution, your platforms, and your regulatory obligations. If it makes sense to move forward, we conduct an environment review: we map your systems, security posture, backups, and vendors against your regulator's expectations, and explain what we find in plain English. The scope of that review and any associated costs are agreed before we begin. From there, we build a plan with clear priorities and a timeline. Nothing starts until you approve it.

    Which platforms do you support?

We work inside Microsoft 365 and alongside the core processing, online and mobile banking, card, and other platforms your institution uses. We manage the identity, access, devices, and network around those platforms, and we coordinate with the vendor when an issue is on their side. If you use something specific, ask us during your strategy session.

What happens during a security incident?

When something goes wrong, the sequence matters. Here is how VanderNet handles it:

    1. 1Detection. Our 24/7/365 SOC monitors your environment continuously. An incident may be detected by our monitoring, reported by your team, or flagged by a vendor or provider.
    2. 2Assessment. We determine the scope and severity of activity within your managed environment. Not every alert is an incident; not every incident is a breach.
    3. 3Containment. Where action is needed, we work to contain activity within the environment we manage, isolating devices, suspending accounts, or blocking traffic depending on what we find.
    4. 4Notification. Your designated contacts receive a clear update: what happened, what we found, what we did, and what comes next.
    5. 5Recovery. Backups support recovery after a threat is contained. We restore affected systems or data in a prioritized order based on what your institution needs most.
    6. 6Coordination. For incidents with broader implications, your executive team, compliance officer, legal counsel, insurance carrier, and vendors may need to be involved, and your institution may have regulatory notification obligations. VanderNet coordinates the technical response and provides the facts and timeline those parties need. Notification decisions remain with your institution.

Backups support recovery. They do not replace the containment and assessment steps that come first.

What are the incident notification deadlines for banks and credit unions?

The deadlines depend on your regulator, and they are measured in hours. Banking organizations supervised by the OCC, the Federal Reserve, or the FDIC must notify their primary federal regulator as soon as possible and no later than 36 hours after determining that a notification incident has occurred. Federally insured credit unions must report a reportable cyber incident to the NCUA as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours after reasonably believing that one has occurred; that notice is an early alert and does not require a detailed incident assessment within the 72 hours. Separately, a bank service provider must notify affected bank customers as soon as possible after it determines it has experienced a computer-security incident that has materially disrupted or degraded, or is reasonably likely to materially disrupt or degrade, covered services for four or more hours. Whether an event meets a threshold is a decision for your leadership, compliance team, and counsel. VanderNet provides the technical facts and timeline they need. State requirements and contractual obligations may differ. This is not legal advice.

How do you protect staff across branches and remote work?

The same layered security follows every user: secured devices, monitored access, phishing-resistant MFA, and support that answers whether your team is at a branch, in the back office, or working remotely.

How do you handle examination requests and vendor questionnaires?

When an examination request list or a questionnaire arrives, your technical safeguards are already mapped and documented. We provide your compliance and security officers with the system and vendor inventory, network architecture diagrams, access review records, patch and update records, control descriptions, recovery-test results, and risk findings that examiners and auditors ask for. We organize it before the deadline, not during it. If a request exposes a gap in your documentation, we help you identify what is missing and what it will take to address it.

Can we switch IT providers during an exam cycle or month-end close?

Yes, and we plan the transition around your deadlines. Nothing changes until you approve it.

What happens to our current IT person or provider?

We can work alongside your existing IT person or team, or take over completely. Either way, we plan the handoff so your institution isn't left in the middle.

How does VanderNet manage updates and patches?

For updates we manage, we assess urgency, review potential impact, test where practical, and schedule deployment around your member-facing hours and critical work periods. General updates are held for 30 days. That window gives Microsoft and other vendors time to identify and withdraw updates that cause problems. Security-urgent patches follow an accelerated process and are not held. Where a software vendor controls its own release schedule, we help you assess the impact and coordinate the response. Nothing changes without your awareness, and critical periods are logged in advance so updates are not deployed before month-end or a holiday weekend.

    Where do you work?

We serve banks and credit unions across Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and the Midwest.

Can I see case studies or talk to your clients?

We don't publish client names. Protecting confidentiality is part of the job. If you'd like to speak with a client, we can discuss that at an appropriate stage with their permission. In the meantime, we can walk you through what a typical engagement looks like and what documentation your compliance and security officers would receive. You can also read anonymized examples on our

    case studies page.

Which regulators and rules apply to our institution?

That depends on your charter and your insurance. National banks and federal savings associations are supervised by the OCC, state member banks by the Federal Reserve, state nonmember banks by the FDIC, and federally insured credit unions by the NCUA. Banks are subject to the Interagency Guidelines Establishing Information Security Standards under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act; federally insured credit unions follow NCUA Part 748. State-chartered institutions also answer to their state regulator. VanderNet works with your compliance and risk professionals to identify which requirements apply to your institution. This is not legal or compliance advice.

The FFIEC retired its Cybersecurity Assessment Tool. What do examiners expect now?

The FFIEC retired the Cybersecurity Assessment Tool (CAT) on August 31, 2025. It chose not to update the tool and told supervised institutions they can refer directly to newer government resources, including NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 and CISA's Cybersecurity Performance Goals. It also noted that institutions may consider industry resources such as the CIS Critical Security Controls, and that any self-assessment tool an institution uses should support an effective control environment and be commensurate with its risk. The FFIEC does not endorse a particular tool, and the NCUA continues to offer its ACET to credit unions on a voluntary basis. VanderNet organizes controls and evidence around NIST CSF 2.0 and CIS Controls. Your regulator and compliance team determine what your examiners expect.

How does VanderNet fit into our third-party risk management program?

VanderNet is one of the vendors your institution oversees, and that oversight remains your institution's responsibility. We support it with documentation: our service scope, the systems and vendors in your environment, access review records, recovery-test results, and escalation contacts. In September 2026, federal regulators issued a proposal to revise their interagency third-party risk management guidance. As of October 2026, that proposal is not final. We follow regulatory guidance as it changes and work with your compliance team on anything that affects your documentation.

How does VanderNet handle employee onboarding and departures?

When a new employee joins, we coordinate device setup, account provisioning, access to the applications they need, and MFA enrollment before their first day. When an employee leaves, we work with your HR or operations contact to remove or suspend access to systems, applications, email, and member data on a defined timeline. Both follow a documented process, not ad hoc handling.

What documentation do our compliance and security officers receive, and how often?

Your officers have access to the technical documentation that supports your compliance program: system and vendor inventory, access review records, patch and update records, control descriptions, recovery-test results, risk findings with remediation status, and escalation contacts. The cadence and format are agreed when we build your plan. Before an examination or audit, we organize the relevant documentation so your team is not assembling it under deadline pressure.

What does the NCUA's vital records requirement mean for our backups?

Federally insured credit unions must maintain a vital records preservation program under 12 CFR Part 749, updated effective July 16, 2026. The program covers identifying, storing, and being able to reconstruct the records needed to restore member services, with duplicate records kept at a separate location. VanderNet's backup and recovery testing supports that program with tested, offsite backups and documented recovery-test results. Your board and management own the program and decide what counts as a vital record.
